Who are Watch D.O.G.S.?
As a Hero of the Hallways, Watch D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer for one day each school year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school.
How does WATCH D.O.G.S. work?
Fathers and father figures can sign up to volunteer for the program through Vaughan's online calendar. The program is overseen by a "Top Dog", our school counselor, Ms. Dreher, who partners with the school’s administration to coordinate scheduling and identifying opportunities for Watch D.O.G.S. to provide assistance at the school.
What do Watch D.O.G.S. do while they are at school?
On the day of their participation at Vaughan, Watch D.O.G.S. arrive by 7:25 am and proceed to the reception desk at the front of the school where they are given a customized schedule for the day. During the day,Watch D.O.G.S perform a variety of tasks, including monitoring the school entrances, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, and helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on various types of schoolwork.Watch D.O.G.S also perform many other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.
Will you really spend a full day at school?
Yes! WATCH D.O.G.S. has a great track record of bringing fathers and father figures to school for the whole day. While volunteering a day is a sacrifice, you can be sure that being a Hero of the Hallway more than makes up for it. In fact, in many cases,Watch D.O.G.S volunteer more because they had an incredible experience and because it gives them a greater appreciation for what teachers are doing to educate their children.
Is there something special to wear?
You may choose to purchase a Watch D.O.G.S. t-shirt here.
If you do not have a Watch D.O.G.S. t-shirt a special vest will be provided to you.
How many times can I sign-up?
Allen ISD policy limits volunteering as a Watch D.O.G twice per school year or once per child, whichever is more. While we GREATLY appreciate our Watch D.O.G.S, we ask that you stick to this policy.
