WHY SERVE ON THE PTA BOARD?

PTA's mission is to make every child's potential a reality. Serving on the PTA Board is one of the best and most fulfilling ways to support the students and staff at Vaughan.

WHO CAN SERVE ON THE PTA BOARD?

Any adult member (18+) of our PTA is eligible serve on the board.

HOW ARE BOARD MEMBERS ELECTED?

All positions are open until officially elected and appointed. The nominating committee will meet in mid-April to finalize the slate of candidates for the following executive officer positions:

• President
• 1st VP - Communications
• 2nd VP - Programs
• 3rd VP - Membership
• 4th VP - Ways and Means
• Secretary
• Treasurer

Once elected, the new executive officers will meet to appoint the Parliamentarian, Standing Chairs and Special Chair positions.

WHEN IS THE BOARD FINALIZED?

The slate of candidates prepared by the nominating committee will presented to the PTA membership for election at the PTA member meeting on April 25th at 5:30pm. Once the executive officers are elected, they have 30 days to meet and appoint the Standing and Special Chair positions. 

WHAT AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR AS A BOARD MEMBER? 

Voting members of the board (the executive officers and standing chairs) are asked to attend board meetings about once per month during the school year. Each position has different requirements. Please review our Bylaws and Standing Rules for a full description of each position.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL IT TAKE?

Time requirements can vary throughout the year. Each board member will complete a Plan of Work that will outline their individual goals for the year and fulfill their duties as outlined by our Bylaws and Standing Rules. Here are estimated time commitments for the executive board positions:

• President ~ 2-10 hours per week
• 1st VP - Communications ~ 2-5 hours per week
• 2nd VP - Programs ~ 2-5 hours per week (up to 10 hours per week in the lead-up to a program)
• 3rd VP - Membership ~ 1-5 hours per week
• 4th VP - Ways and Means ~ 1-5 hours per week (up to 10 hours per week during the fall fundraiser)
• Secretary ~ 1-3 hours per week
• Treasurer ~ 1-3 hours per week
• Parliamentarian ~ 2 hours per month
